Get the Best Dressing Hints From Fashion Magazines

One of the important factors of a fashion magazine is that it helps to determine why certain materials are used for certain styles. You will find that two or more materials are used at times in styling an outfit. A wise designer planning an outfit for herself will not be inclined towards a material simply because she likes the texture and the fall of the material. This is where fashion magazines help you to select the right kind of material for the design of your choice.

While designing a garment, certain materials are used for certain sections of the garment and not simply whatever may catch your fancy. For example crepes are manufactured to be used for clinging styles and not fluffed up designs. Materials such as taffetas, organdies and crisp batistes are used in suit styles where fluffs are involved, as against the crepes, which are used for the clinging styles. A very important point to be observed is that fabrics are designed to suit styles and styles to suit fabrics.

Color Suggestions

Studying individual designs helps in making the right selection of pattern and material. Then comes the choice of color to be adapted to the lines of the garment and the fabric used. The end result will be a pleasing and appealing garment.

A factor to be considered, though, when choosing colors, is that the color portrayed in the fashion plates will not be an absolute replica of the color produced by the textile manufacturer. Neither would a true outline of the garment as it will appear with fabric, be presented in the magazine by fashion designers.

However, it is possible to get suggestions from the color plates shown in fashion magazines, once you have understood about lines. Keeping this knowledge on lines in mind, you will be able to give prominence to a color that will most effectively bring out the garment. You will be able to bring out the soft, silent tones or tints of a color where desired, while you choose a fabric that will best bring out the lines suggested by the designer in a fashion drawing.

Interpreting Fashions

In the market, you will find a number of fashion magazines that suggest only style tendencies, color and fabric combinations. Such magazines will still be of value, if you have studied patterns and lines. It will help you with ideas and suggestions to incorporate in your garments.

In most cases, you would be able to apply these ideas even more successfully than the artist himself in his drawings. You would be able to bring out the practicability of the garment by adapting it to the material to give a harmonious outline to suit you.

How To Find A Fashion Magazine Internship

It’s the job a million girls would kill for – the fashion magazine internship. If you’re looking to get into fashion magazines as a career, an internship is one of the only ways to break into the business, especially if you want to work for a top level fashion magazine like Allure, Elle or the highly regarded Vogue. But the biggest question of all is how to find these highly sought after fashion magazine internships. Here are a few tips for getting your foot in the door.

Go Straight To The Source

One of the best ways to find a fashion magazine internship is to go straight to the magazines themselves. You can call the front desk and ask if there are any openings for interns. Or better yet send a resume and cover letter over on your own. They’ll be impressed about how driven and proactive you are.

Go Straight To The Source…Online

Many of the major fashion magazines are owned by the same company, such as Conde Nast or Time Warner. Their official websites have job searches. Give the search a try, a fashion magazine internship lead just might come up.

Start A Blog

How would you like to be handed a fashion magazine internship without even applying? It doesn’t happen in all cases, but running your own fashion blog can get you great opportunities and recognition. You can also use to show potential employers your writing skills and how dedicated you are to fashion.

Through Your School

If you’re not at a fashion school it’s still worth a try and hopefully one of your counselors can track down leads especially for you.

Finding a lead for a fashion internship is actually the hard part, it’s landing the job that’s hard! But you’ve got to take these first steps, and it’s important to search, search, search to find those leads. Good luck!

How To Land A Fashion Magazine Internship

Landing an internship at a fashion magazine seems like a dream to many girls. Surrounded by glamour and celebrities, styling shoots and being surrounded by tons of designer clothes. And let’s not forget the perks: free designer items. But it’s a tough job, and before you can even find that out aspiring fashion magazine interns have to compete with thousands of other girls to get the job. Here’s a few pointers on how to do it.

Always approach a fashion magazine internship like you would any other job. You’ll want to submit a resume, cover letter and references unless stated otherwise. Depending on the magazine they might want writing samples as well. Tailor your cover letter to each individual magazine. Be sure to mention recent company events in the cover letter. For example, congratulate them on a special issue or increasing their circulation; this let’s them know you’ve done your homework.

Close your cover letter with your objective, but leave this off of your resume. You want your objective to show you will benefit them, not vice versa. If you want to learn from the experience and hopefully turn your fashion magazine internship with them into a full time job that’s great. But spin it in such a way to make it sound like you will be giving them something.

Be sure you know your stuff before going in to the interview. Of course this includes company information, but it’s certainly not limited to that. Even the fashion magazine interns need to know everything there is about fashion. Know designers, know the models, know the stylists, know the photographers. And not just by name, know their styles and what makes them different. If they ask you what designers you would pull to put together a demure look, don’t say Cavalli or Versace. If they ask you who your top three favorite models of the moment are, leave anyone with a Victoria’s Secret contract off the list. You get the picture.

This probably goes without saying, but I’ll say it anyways: even those wanting a fashion magazine internship need to dress to kill. Many fashion magazine editors have said that they look for girls who can mix high end pieces with discount pieces and a touch of vintage. Your looks should definitely be trendy but still appropriate. Accessorize, but don’t over accessorize. Wear good shoes that look expensive.

Hopefully these pointers will help you land a fashion magazine internship. Always remember to be professional and of course be fashionable!

What To Expect At A Fashion Magazine Internship

The movie “The Devil Wears Prada” left many aspiring fashion magazine interns wondering if the interning at a fashion magazine is really the way it was portrayed. It may be a surprise to many but most of what is seen in that movie is not an exaggeration; after all, it was written by someone who worked for Vogue magazine editor in chief Anna Wintour.

It’s A Seasonal Position

Of course every magazine will have a different schedule. Top fashion magazines, like Allure or Marie Claire for instance, hire fashion interns for the season. Usually the fashion intern would start in late December or early January and work through May for the Winter/Spring season. If you impress the boss during your fashion magazine internship, they will keep you on longer.

You’ll Work Your Manicured Fingers To The Bone

One of the most accurate parts of “The Devil Wears Prada” was the long hours that Anne Hathaway’s character had to work. The amount of hours your scheduled for means nothing. Expect to work 12 hour days, maybe shorter, maybe even longer. Most of the work will be running errands, going to showrooms to pick up items, answering phones and emails, and organizing the fashion closet.

When your work is done a lot of times you’ll be asked to stay later until the fashion assistants are finished with their work. And it’s highly unlikely that you’ll have any interaction with the editor; at Vogue magazine interns are told never to look Anna Wintour in the face and not to look in to her office. The fashion assistant will be your boss, but that doesn’t mean they’re not demanding.

Enjoy The Perks

After you’re established in your fashion magazine internship, you might get the chance to fly across the country or perhaps out of the country, just like Lauren Conrad of The Hills did for her internship at Teen Vogue. Part of your work will probably include assisting on shoots and styling the models, which is a lot of fun for any fashion loving girl. And even interns are gifted with high fashion designer label items from the closet.

A fashion magazine internship certainly isn’t a walk in the park, but it’s a good test to see who can and can’t make it in the industry. And if you’re looking for a careers specifically it’s basically the only way to get your foot in the door.

Fashion industry attracts many young people nowadays not only because it is a rather new profession, but also it is supposed to realize person’s likes in the field of fashion. Besides, it is quite a high-paid profession today. When a young person decides to connect his or her activity with the fashion industry nothing comes to mind except one its aspect – fashion design. Probably, few people actually know that it’s a separate field of fashion industry. In fact, there is a great number of other professions and specialties in fashion including designing clothing, fashion design, fashion marketing, fashion merchandising, etc. The latter doesn’t get worthy attention, but it is very important. Due to merchandising we have fashionable clothes in the shops and stores.

How can one know whether fashion merchandising is the field for him to start work at? Look through the following traits of a potential fashion merchandiser and if at least one point coincides with your way of life, you have all chances to make the career in the field. Do you like to spend your weekend walking through flea markets for the latest retro fashions? Or maybe your friends want to borrow your fashionable shoes and your defiant accessories? If so, maybe you should take a walk down the fashion runway. Being a student in merchandising, you will get an opportunity to learn more about fabrics and textiles. You are also going to study the cultures and subcultures that shape the way people dress.

No doubt, in order to become a professional merchandiser, a great desire and talent for this specialty is not enough. If a person wants to get into this career and have success in it one needs to get the right education and training at first. A fashion merchandising college will be of great help for you. Once you study at a fashion merchandising college you will get an opportunity to learn all the ins and outs of the fashion industry because there one can get a practical experience and build a strong foundation necessary for further working in this field.

A student has the right to choose whether to obtain a two-year Associate in Art degree or a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in the field of fashion. It depends on the kind of a fashion merchandising college you are going to visit. Besides, you are also welcome to unite this education with classes or even a major or minor in a related specialty, for instance, fashion design or fashion marketing. Students in a fashion merchandising college learn how to manufacture, buy, promote, and sell fashion items, beginning from clothing and jewelry to cosmetics and furniture. They also learn about textiles (fabrics and the fibers used to make them).

One should choose his or her future merchandising college very thoroughly. Depending upon the fashion merchandising college you are going to attend a sort of the necessary courses in your degree course will greatly vary. The most preferable courses include subjects like accounting principles, business law, salesmanship, fashion sketching, merchandising math, merchandising, publicity and promotions, fashion development, trend-spotting, and the history of fashion. You are certain to like those subjects, besides, they will give you the fundamental knowledge of the fashion industry.

Studying at a fashion merchandising college is not like studying at any other educational establishment. Many core courses in fashion merchandising are hands-on and involve a great amount of project work. Professors tend to rely more on their life experiences than on textbooks. If you are going to become a student expect to take a lot of field trips and listen to many guest speakers. You may visit a fashion magazine or large clothing company. You might even swing by a fashion show or two.

Having the profession of a fashion merchandiser is very interesting. It involves much communication with other people. When a person gets the job of a fashion merchandiser he or she is going to spend all days long visiting various fashion shows, buying clothing and designs, speaking with designers, overseeing advertising and marketing campaigns necessary for successful selling of your products, and managing the stores within your business network. You are also expected to find yourself negotiating business agreements with manufacturers and suppliers. Besides, you are going to arrange your own store displays. The scope of your activity depends on the size of the business you have as well as on the level of practical work expected of you.

Beginning the fashion merchandising career you should always improve your skills and knowledge of fashion tendencies in the world, and the most important thing you will have to do is to perfect your ability of picking out the next big thing in fashion before anyone else does. This will guarantee your success. This ability carries the foundation of your new knowledge of past fashions and trends. It includes everything you will obtain by attending a fashion merchandising college, but further you should develop this trend adding your own good taste in clothing.

Summing up, it would be necessary to say that the career of a fashion merchandiser cooperates with many different fields of the fashion industry. That’s why if you are searching for a more interesting kind of activity, something that’s more than just designing clothes or visiting fashion shows, fashion merchandising may be your piece of cake. But be very attentive while choosing an appropriate fashion merchandising college, try to use your wisdom in this uneasy task, because it may define your future profession and even you life. You should do your research before entering the fashion merchandising college, and beforehand check whether the school or program you are going to attend is properly accredited.

You constantly dream of the day your fashions will be on the fashion runway with the lights beaming brightly overhead, the cameras flashing everywhere and the audience being completely mesmerized by your incredible designs. You can’t stop thinking of the day you will open a magazine or watch the Oscars and see a famous celebrity in one of your breathtaking designs. Your book shelf is stocked with fashion books and magazines, and you absolutely can’t resist visiting textile stores to view all the latest fabrics, decorative beads, rhinestones and trims.

It’s this ever present dream of being a successful fashion designer that has you work day and night on your designs in most cases for many years without pay and working a job to pay the pills which is brutal torture, when all you can think about is living and working in fashion.

Famous fashion designers come from all walks of life there is no one system to follow that will have you become the next famous fashion designer. Some have graduated from elite fashion schools and some have never attended fashion school. Some have undertaken a fashion internship with a fashion house and others have made their own designs in their basement. The only elements all these fashion designers have in common is they had an intense passion for fashion, were able to design fashions highly sought after and connected with someone who gave them the opportunity to break into the fashion industry. It is essential in becoming a successful fashion designer you get you and your designs out there as much as possible, as how will anyone know about your fashions if they can’t see them?

In getting your fashions out there here are a few things you can do:

1. We are not usually good at everything some of us are great at designing clothes but lack the sewing and pattern making skills. It is here you can partner with someone who shares your passion for fashion and has the skills you lack. It is in the bringing together of different skills you can create a real product that can be showcased.
2. In having a fashion line of 14 outfits you can apply to your local fashion week. In the USA: New York, Los Angeles and San Francisco all have fashion weeks. These fashion weeks attract many editors, journalists and local socialites who will see your fashions and potentially give you the exposure you need to get known.
3. Many city night clubs hold fashion shows, find out what night clubs hold fashion shows and contact them as to how you can be apart of an up and coming show.

4. Locate fashion boutiques that cater to the fashions you design, first make a trip to the stores to look around, if you can see your clothes fitting in well with the store, find out who the owner is and ask if they would be willing to have some of your fashions offered for sale in their store. You will be amazed at how many store owners are willing to work with you. I walked around San Francisco in the Nob Hill district and had my fashions placed after visiting and discussing my product with four boutiques. In having your fashions displayed you will receive valuable insights as to whether or not your designs are in demand and if you need to change your designs to increase sales. It will also give you free exposure to the public. When your fashions do sell you can present this to investors who are more than willing to invest in your line, when you prove the existence of a strong demand for your fashions.

If you are struggling to create your fashions due to the lack of capital, connections or all the skills required, you can visit: [http://www.cluehut.com] where it’s free to create a profile stating what you need and who you are hoping to connect with in achieving your fashion dream. Lifestyle And Fashion During The Sydney Fashion Week

Sydney Fashion Lifestyle is being pushed by the Sydney Fashion Week designers through their endless creative designs and remarkable fashion tips that almost all Australians love to idolize. Little black dresses have become one of their feature designs. These designs are something, maybe because it shows elegant and classiness, that people still dwell in it. Old style and old creations cannot, also, be disregarded. Those ancient styles have become the inspiration of the fashion trends these days.

The Sydney Fashion Week seems to focus in architecturally and geometrically contoured designs. The clothes, dresses, and other fashion related accessories like stilettos etcetera were shown dramatically and way stylish compared to any other Fashion Week. Sydney Fashion Week has also caught everyone’s attention due to the spunk that they have put in the styles of their fashion. In addition, the hairstyles that they have used in their fashion were inspired by the punk and tall rock and roll hairs of the ’80s.

Now with all the glamour and style, the big intriguing question is, does the creativity and the originality of fashion moving forward or backward? I do believe that a fashion week should be the time to celebrate an all new brilliant creation and showcase new ideas that can be used as one of the fashion tips in the next few years. However, as what I have observed, what happens is that they are proclaiming something that is already there. With the world putting their eyes on Lady Gaga and her experimental metallic wardrobe, fashion designers began making clothes and accessories that are accentuated with such design and presented it as one of the latest trends of the year. If this event keeps on happening, there is a greater chance that fashion will start to find its integrity falling behind. I say keep the fashion creations original and creative!

The reinvention of the classic little black dresses is fantastic. Classic designs have actually established it but this kind of situation just implies that the creativity of designers is losing its touch and it is a little bit saddening that although we have to thank the past fashion designs for today’s clothes, designers should still explore on new creations and the fashion lifestyle should try its best to make everyone see that they have the power to change this cycle from happening.

I am pretty sure everyone is still looking for and waiting for someone who would design something extraordinary and will not conform to the traditional designs and would become a front – liner in setting a new fad for fashion. Don’t get me wrong – I love fashion. But it seems to me that fashion nowadays lack some sort of excitement with their designs.

So what I am looking forward to the next Sydney Fashion Week is that designers would actually make something that will not only make a statement in the fashion industry but also something that will set a new fashion lifestyle for everybody. It should be something that could make people express themselves because the clothes we are wearing defines who we are.
